According to the latest collection figures of weekend (January 8-10), Avatar (in 3D English) is clearly ahead of 3 Idiots in multiplexes in the northern belt (predominantly a Hindi speaking market).
While the collections of Aamir Khan's film were reported to be Rs 24 lakh from the four major multiplexes where 3D is available, Avatar raced ahead with a collection of around Rs 39 lakh. In fact, in PVR Select City and PVR Ambience, Avatar (3D) has already grossed a record breaking Rs 1.5 crore each.
Even in its fourth week of release, Avatar is still ruling the Indian box office and having grossed Rs 83 crore till date, it is all set to become the biggest Hollywood film ever in India.
The collections from the 3D screens is more than encouraging – with 54 3D screens (nine per cent) contributing to 35 per cent of the total three weekbox office collection in India.
Worldwide too, the film has beaten all competition and has now hit the No.2 spot by becoming the highest grossing movie of all time after Cameron's own Titanic.
