Asin has finally decided to take voluntary retirement from Kollywood and join Bollywood full time! The buzz is that Asin has signed up a one-year deal with a leading Mumbai based celebrity management company for a whopping Rs. 8 Crore!
As per the deal, the company will manage her dates and she will have to earmark certain number of days for the seven endorsements that she is doing at the moment plus two international endorsements that she has signed last week. In addition the company will also manage her dates and negotiate with her producers.
Asin's scenes in her Hindi Ghajini with Aamir Khan will be over by February end. She is now on the verge of signing up two big Bollywood films, the first of them opposite a very big star, which will start rolling in May, while the shoot for the other film also with a top star will start in September.
Like Sridevi in the mid 80's who became a top actress in Bollywood, Asin too has quit Tamil films at her peak. She is the queen of Kollywood, a heroine with an awesome hit ratio who is abdicating her throne at a time when she is riding a wave. Now she has only Dasavatharam due for release. Asin was rumoured to be doing two Tamil films- Marmayogi with Kamal Hassan, and A.R Murgadoss's first film as producer and director with Surya.
But now it looks like that won't happen, as she cannot afford to get sentimental about Tamil films. At the end of the day if one has to survive and make it big in Bollywood, you have to be a total professional, committed to your work. Aamir Khan has promised to officially launch Asin to the national media at the time of Ghajani release sometime in July/August and he is one person who does very good promotions for all his films.
So far by any yardstick Asin has made rapid strides in Bollywood, and to hang on there is going to be more difficult than reaching there. Today she cannot afford to get sentimental about Kollywood, which made her a star; there is a very thin dividing line between success and failure in Bollywood. It is more than 20 years since a south Indian girl has made inroads into Bollywood. Let us hope that our beloved Asin is able to reach the top.
