"WE ARE FAMILY" Movie Review By Taran Adarsh

Okay, WE ARE FAMILY is the official adaptation of Chris Columbus' STEPMOM [1998] and lots of us have already watched this Julia Roberts - Susan Sarandon starrer. Even otherwise, the story of a woman, diagnosed with a terminal illness, entrusting her kids to the 'other woman' before she does the final salute, gives the feeling of deja vu. But WE ARE FAMILY is not a tear-jerker. Sure, it has dollops of emotions, but also integrates the light moments wonderfully in those 12 reels.

In the good old days, in the 1960s and 1970s specifically, well-made family films struck an instant chord with viewers across the spectrum. But with the changing times, the quantum of well-made socials made a rapid decline. WE ARE FAMILY belongs to the Rajshri gharaana and tells the story of a family facing two life-changing developments: The woman of the house is diagnosed with a terminal illness and two, there's a stepmom on the scene. A difficult subject to handle, without doubt.

But debutant director Siddharth P. Malhotra surprises you constantly. Casting the best available talent for two pivotal parts and doing complete justice to their roles is tough. Very tough. But the ease with which he handles the tense moments between the women and also the emotional finale shows he has learnt his lessons well from his peers.

Final word? WE ARE FAMILY is for the family. It is well acted, deftly written, entertaining and broadly appealing drama. Watch it with someone you love!

Maya [Kajol] is the perfect mother. Her life revolves around her three children, Aleya [Aanchal Munjal], Ankush [Nominath Ginsberg] and Anjali [Diya Sonecha]. Despite being divorced from her husband Aman [Arjun Rampal], Maya has ensured that everything runs smoothly in her house, under her watch, and that they continue to remain a happy family unit.

When Aman introduces his girlfriend, Shreya [Kareena Kapoor], a career-oriented woman, the situation takes an unexpected turn. However, Maya is diagnosed with a terminal illness and circumstances bring the two women under the same roof. Can two mothers make a home?

With a plot like this, you expect WE ARE FAMILY to be an out-and-out serious outing. However, the film has its serious moments, but the director ensures that it doesn't come across as a gloomy and serious fare. In fact, the generous dose of light moments in the narrative keeps the drama fluid. There's an inherent sensitivity that the director brings in, which keeps you involved for most parts.

On the flip side, the film tends to stagnate in the middle of the second hour. One expects the story to move forward, but there's not much movement here [thankfully, the film picks up wonderfully towards the penultimate reels]. Also, the music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is a complete letdown. You feel it all the more because Dharma is synonymous with excellent music. The only redeeming track in the enterprise is 'Let's Rock', which is high on energy. S-E-L need to reinvent themselves by experimenting a little more.

Director Siddharth P. Malhotra handles the dramatic portions best. The tense moments between Kajol and Kareena, the confrontation between the two and also the cold stares that they exchange time and again have been captured very well. The gradual transformation in Kajol's looks, from striking and energetic to pale and morose, is also well projected. The finale is the best part of the enterprise and can be best described in one word: Outstanding. However, like I pointed out earlier, the writing could've been tighter towards the second hour.

Mohanan's cinematography is eye-catching and the locales of Australia only enhance the look of the film. Niranjan Iyengar's dialogue are decent at places, but a few lines are amazingly real. The background score [Raju Singh] is first-rate.

WE ARE FAMILY gives the two popular actresses an opportunity to sink their teeth into strongly drawn, juicy, challenging and interesting female roles that move beyond the normal stereotypes. The scene stealer is, without doubt, Kajol. She expresses the gamut of emotions brilliantly and speaks a million words even when silent. This is yet another incredible performance from an actor par excellence. Kareena excels yet again and her sequences with the kids are a delight. In fact, casting Kareena as the stepmom is just right, since she's the only actor who can stand up to Kajol in high-voltage scenes and that's because Kareena is a powerful actor herself. Arjun continues to surprise. ROCK ON, HOUSE FULL, RAAJNEETI and now WE ARE FAMILY indicates the growth of this actor. He handles the emotional moments well too. The kids - all three of them - are superb. In fact, the casting of the kids [done by Shanoo Sharma] is an ace.

On the whole, WE ARE FAMILY is a perfect family film with a good mix of emotions and humour. Plus, a brilliant climax, which will ensure that the film grows with a strong word of mouth. The last film which came close to being a family outing was PAA. Before that, the only quintessential family film was BAGHBAN. WE ARE FAMILY is the kind of film that should work instantly with ladies and when ladies watch such films, they bring their spouses and children along. Recommended!

Shahid Kapoor want to make Sequel to "Kaminey"

Shahid planning Kaminey 2, will Vishal, Priyanka relent?Shahid Kapoor has recently mended his differences with his 'Kaminey' director Vishal Bhardwaj and is now reportedly trying to convince Vishal for a sequel of the critically acclaimed movie.

The movie was well appreciated by the critics and Shahid's double role also received good response from his audience. This has motivated the actor to plan for a sequel of 'Kaminey'. The actor has been reportedly visiting Vishal's Lokhandwala office, frequently in recent times to woo him for 'Kaminey 2'.

If things get properly placed, the audience can expect to see the actor teaming up with Vishal for the sequel. Both of them parted ways due to some differences during the making of 'Kaminey'. However, they have patched up now and a sequel is not impossible.

According to a source close to the actor, Shahid has been sending feelers to the director to cast him in 'Kaminey 2' to revive the double role of soft-spoken Guddu and the feisty Charlie. Shahid has a strong feeling that the movie has turned a brand now and there will be a lot of takers for the sequel.

Vishal is also excited about the plan of a sequel but he is taking time to finalize things. Moreover, the director is now busy with his upcoming movie of 'Saat Khoon Maaf', which stars Priyanka Chopra, the source added.

There was a report sometime back that Shahid and Vishal had a long meeting in London during the director's visit to the city for 'Saat Khoon Maaf'. In fact, Vishal was reported to have met Shahid's dad, the veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor.

The new bond between them may lead to the sequel and audience can just keep their finger crossed!

'Dabangg' Actress Sonakshi shares her happiness about Dad

Dabangg Sonakshi made her dad cryOne conversation with Sonakshi Sinha and you know that she is different from the starry eyed newbies who make an entry in Bollywood month after month.

Casual about the presence of a mighty co-star like Salman and describing her relation with him as a friend rather than a fan, Sonakshi shares her happiness around the positive start that her career has taken with her debut film already 'Dabangg' carrying great vibes.

"It was my dad who was the most emotional of all. When he saw me in the film, he just didn't say anything. He had tears in his eyes. He is very proud of me today", says Sonakshi when questioned about the emotional reactions that her family had once her portions from the film were aired as a part of the promos.

Daughter of Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha, Sonakshi isn't new to the tinsel world. Still, for her very first film, she did have her mother for support right through the shooting.

"Yes, my mom was there with me throughout the filming and hence was seeing my progress as an actor on a day to day basis", admits Sonakshi, "It was comforting to have a great support from her throughout."

How does she personally feel about her conduct as an actor? Given the fact that not many debutant girls get a performance oriented role and that too when the lead hero is as big as Salman Khan, she must have been kicked about the final results too, isn't it?

"The reactions have of course been great so far but then I am not going to take it to my head", says Sonakshi in a level headed tone, " People are expecting a lot from me and it is a scary thing because I have no formal training on acting. I have just gone ahead and given my best shot.

I told Abhinav (the director) that he had to tell me exactly what he wanted from me. I am very good at following orders and thankfully he too came with a clear vision. It is due to Anubhav that I have managed to sail through the film."

Director Farah Khan treats Katrina Kaif with Cinnabons

Gives Katrina Kaif the sweets she craves in return for staying slender till item song Sheila Ki Jawani was shot
Farah Khan believes in keeping her artistes happy. She promised her Tees Maar Khan heroine, Katrina Kaif a special treat if she managed to maintain a slender waist for her raunchy number, Sheila Ki Jawani. Yesterday, Khan fulfilled Kat's craving to have Cinnabons.

Says the director, "Katrina has worked extremely hard on the song Sheila Ki Jawani over the last couple of weeks. I had told her I'd give her whatever treat she wanted after the song was done. She wanted Cinnabons so yesterday I got three dozen in assorted flavours on the sets after we packed up. The day before wrap-up, she finished shooting for the song, went for a press endorsement in the evening and then went to the gym at midnight and worked out."

Farah is impressed with Kat's professionalism and dedication. "She had to wear a low waisted, half-saree for the song so for the last two weeks she cut down on carbohydrates, didn't have any sweets, went to the gym regularly and followed a strict diet. She did whatever I told her to do. Now that the song is over, the poor girl can eat to her heart's content. Her performance in this song is going to shock people."

Incidentally, Shah Rukh had gone on a diet and almost starved for Om Shanti Om and Dard-e-Disco. A defensive Farah states, "I don't ask my stars to starve. I just tell them that this is what you have to look like and these are your costume references. Like Madhuri will be remembered for Ek Do Teen, Kat will be remembered for Sheila Ki Jawani. She's looking her best! It is like a tribute to Jumma Chumma from Hum. Akshay is also in the song."

Katrina says, "After pack up, we had a feast (she ate three Cinnabons). I love Cinnabons so I asked Farah if I could have some after the song got over. I have been training with Yasmin Karachiwala for the last 13 days to tone down for the song. We trained on Tuesday night at 12 am. It's not so much about losing weight as toning the abs and body. I have been on a controlled diet which consists mainly of fruit, fish and porridge."

South ActressTrisha speaks about her dealings with Nigerian Drug Scandal

Angry Trisha speaks on her Drug Scandal The Khatta Meetha debutante Trisha Krishnan who will next be seen in Hindi with Pratik Babbar has become embroiled in a drug scandal.

A report on a Telugu channel claims Trisha's name features in the list of clients of a Nigerian drug dealer. All because she has a very close friend of African origin, the dress designer Sidney Sladen!

Trisha is not taking it lying down.

Fuming from Chennai she says, “It's very strange. I was shooting in Kodaikanal when this Telugu news channel put this news out. And they put a still of me and this very dear friend of mine who's Afro-American. They assumed that this fashion-designer friend of mine from Chennai was some drug peddler from Nigera.”

And Trisha is not amused. “I was angry. This is not just a harmless rumour. The first thing I did was to get my lawyer to issue statements to all the tv channels.

I've taken legal action against the channel which put this out. There is not an element of truth in it.It's strange where this story came from. I haven't been to Hyderabad for a year now. I was told this peddler knows my number. But come on, everyone knows my number.”

Trisha thinks this an attempt to malign her in the Telugu film industry. 'The only problem is, you can't pinpoint such a thing to any one source. But yes, it seems to have been done to tarnish my image. Luckily I've got a lot of support in Hyderabad even from the authorities.”

Katrina Kaif Tied Rakhi To Sajid Nadiadwala

Salman's ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif, made his best buddy, Sajid Nadiadwala her rakhi brother, a first for the producer

Now that Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are no more an item, it appears, things turned a little bizarre on Tuesday afternoon when Kat suddenly decided to tie a rakhi to Sallu's best friend of many years, producer Sajid Nadiadwala! Kaif is the first actress to have tied a rakhi to Nadiadwala. The incident happened on the sets of Farah Khan's film Tees Maar Khan in Film City.

"It happened after Farah had tied a rakhi to Sajid Nadiadwala and her brother Sajid Khan in the van. Katrina, who was present there, suddenly stepped up and announced she wanted to tie a rakhi to Nadiadwala, as well," a source present at the sets disclosed. "A pleasantly stunned Nadiadwala had no option but to agree.

Though, initially there was an awkward moment as Nadiadwala didn't know how to react. Nadiadwala has worked with many actresses, but no one has tied a rakhi on him ever," he said Till now, Nadiadwala had always maintained a professional distance with Katrina.

He hasn't cast her in his films yet. But, now the producer will have to pull off a balancing act between his BFF of almost 18 years and a recently acquired sister. It was Salman who had first introduced Katrina to his crony.

Said Nadiadwala, "I have known Katrina for six years and I am honored that Katrina has made me her brother. It's rare that we get a brother or sister by choice." Grapevine has it that Nadiadwala is planning to cast Katrina in one of his five productions next year.

Prachi Desai baught a expensive apartment besides Ekta Kapoor

Prachi buys lavish apartment besides Ekta KapoorTelevision to Bollywood, a journey from small screen to big screen, has been not very tough for budding actress Prachi Desai. And all this was possible only because of her mentor and TV queen Ekta Kapoor, who launched her in the Zee TV's serial 'Kasamh Se'. So, how can Prachi remain far from her mentor and best friend?

It is reported that Prachi has recently purchased a lavish apartment just beside Ekta Kapoor's office in Andheri West. So, the actress must be on the seventh sky with her new home being near Ekta's office. Moreover, she must be celebrating the success of her latest movie Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai by gifting herself this new apartment.

Before this, Prachi was living in a rented house at Yari Road. Now, finally she has managed to buy herself an apartment after all these years. Her new home is reportedly a luxurious two-and-a-half BHK situated at Oberoi Spring in Andheri West, just minutes away from Ekta's office.

According to a source close to Prachi, she saw many other apartments as well but she zeroed down on this apartment at Oberoi Spring. The interiors of the apartment are already done.

Well, is it a mere coincidence or planned buy, who knows!

Katrina Kaif Has got secret look in Tees Maar Khan as Farah Khan bans camera phones on the sets

Katrina`s secret look; Farah Khan bans camera phonesChoreographer turned Farah Khan seems to have become very possessive about her lead actress Katrina Kaif in the upcoming movie 'Tees Maar Khan'. Actually, Farah does not want to disclose Katrina's look in the film now so she has banned camera phones on the sets of the film.

The 'no cell phone' diktat has come strictly from the director Farah Khan. Currently, Farah is shooting the song 'Sheela Ki Jawani' at Film City with Katrina and she is very cautious about the photos and clips of this song getting leaked out.

Before entering the sets, the crew has been asked to deposit their cell phones at the gate. A guard has been appointed to check everyone to make sure that no one carries a cell phone on the set. In fact, she has increased security on the set.

Confirming the news, Farah said, it's true that she has instructed everyone to deposit their cell phones at the gate. The director added that Katrina has worked very hard for the song and has even stopped stuffing some favorite food just to look perfect on a hot outfit.

So, Farah does not want to spoil this fun for the audience by leaking Katrina's look. Khan said that she is the only person who can carry her cell phone on the set.

Farah further added that even though she is trying to keep the look secret, there are many people who are trying to peep around climbing on parapets and vintage points to have a glimpse of Katrina in this new look.

Well, if Farah is planning a surprise for the audience, all should keep some patience and wait for the revelation!

Pakistani government has decided against allowing any new Bollywood film

The Pakistani government has decided against allowing any new Indian film to be released in cinemas on Eid following demands from the local film industry.

Federal Minister for Culture Pir Aftab Shah Jillani said the decision had been taken to support the local film industry.

"If more Pakistani films are released, the industry might be able to sustain in Pakistan," he said.
After the ebb in cultural activities in the month of Ramadan, Eid is considered an occasion to revive it.
Indian films were banned in Pakistani cinemas after the 1965 war between both countries. After a gap of over 40 years, the government of former president, Gen Pervez Musharraf, allowed the screening of select Indian movies subject to the censor board's approval.

Bollywood movies have a huge fan following in Pakistan and pirated copies of these movies are readily available in local markets.

Coupled with the decline in local film industry, the government decided to allow films from across the industry.
However, local film producers and actors are generally not in favour of this decision.

They view the competition from Bollywood movies as a "killer blow" for the Pakistani film industry and have been advocating a ban on allowing Indian movies in local cinemas.

Addressing a press conference here, actress-turned-director Sangeeta, Mustafa Qureshi and several other artists favoured the ban imposed on Indian movies for the coming Eid.

They warned that the actors, producers, directors, writers and technicians involved with the film trade will be forced to take to the streets if any such move was allowed.
Five Pakistani movies, they informed, were ready for release during Eid and demanded the government to allow the local industry to flourish.

Cinema owners, however, have a different take on this as they consider Indian movies a big source of raking in revenues. The film exhibitors' association has said that they will take up the ban with the federal government and will try to get a relaxation.

The local industry does not produce enough movies and also lack in quality as compared to Indian movies, which makes it difficult to attract masses to the theatres, the cinema owners association argues.
About a dozen movies were made and released in Pakistan last year in different languages.

HELLO DARLING Movie Review By Taran Adarsh

Comedy is serious business and I genuinely believe that making people laugh is an arduous task. The best of film-makers, with years/decades of experience behind them, have tried attempting laughathons time and again. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they don't. HELLO DARLING also tries to tickle your funny bone, but in vain.

Frankly, the story of a sex pervert and three alluring ladies could've resulted in one naughty film. HELLO DARLING uses every trick in the book [skin show, generous dose of double entendres et al] to make you laugh, but barring a scene or two, the effort falls flat on its face.

Final word? This film is a joke in the name of comedy!

HELLO DARLING tells the story of three working girls - Candy [Celina Jaitly], Mansi [Gul Panag] and Satvati [Eesha Koppikhar] - who bond together in a posh office of Mumbai, though each of them belongs to a different stratum of society. The biggest issue they face is in their work place. It is headed by their smart boss Hardik [Jaaved Jaffrey], a chronic playboy. He is smart. They have to be smarter. Who wins this battle of the sexes?

An interesting story idea may not translate into an interesting/entertaining film. On paper, perhaps, the concept of HELLO DARLING may sound hilarious, but what unfolds is childish and bizarre. Forget smiling, you wear a constant smirk on your face at most times. In fact, even if the plotline was weak, but had the writers [Pankaj Trivedi and Sachin Shah] and director [Manoj Tiwari] packed the film with gags and punches, the film would've kept your attention alive. But what comes across is an excuse in the name of comedy.

A few funny moments, like the 'kidnapping' of a dead body from the hospital and a Godmother [Seema Biswas] who brings errant and wayward husbands back on track, are amusing. But the negatives outweigh the positives in this case. In fact, the goings-on get unbearable towards the post-interval portions, when a robber [Vrajesh Hirjee] lands up at Gul's apartment and finds Jaaved chained. From that point onwards, till the finale, which includes the boss [Sunny Deol] reprimanding Jaaved and transferring him to Bangladesh, the film only worsens.

Director Manoj Tiwari fails to deliver, mainly because the writing is corny. The double entendres, used generously to spice the proceedings, are tasteless. The music [Pritam] is mediocre, barring the 'Aa Jaane Ja' track. Ravi Yadav's cinematography is functional.

Amongst the three, Gul stands out with a convincing performance. Celina is decent, while Eesha doesn't look like a Haryanvi. Jaaved goes over the top, but is believable nonetheless. Divya Dutta is alright. Chunky Pandey gets no scope. Seema Biswas is just right. Sunny Deol, in a brief role, is monotonous. Asawari Joshi is passable. Mukesh Tiwari is wasted. Ditto for Vrajesh Hirjee.

On the whole, HELLO DARLING tries hard to make you laugh, but falls flat on its face. In fact, this comedy is more of a tragedy for the viewer.

John Abraham's AASHAYEIN Movie Review By Taran Adarsh

Like Kukunoor's previous attempts, AASHAYEIN is sensitively told and has several poignant and heart wrenching moments, but the story strays from realism and ends up being a fantasy, which leaves a sour taste in your mouth. The entire RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK track, with John imagining himself in Harrison Ford's boots, is weird.

Practically every new-age film-maker wants to attempt a real story on celluloid. Stories which are straight out of life/newspapers/news channels. These stories, generally, strike a chord with the ticket buying audience if narrated convincingly and most importantly, narrated within commercial parameters.

Nagesh Kukunoor has been a frontrunner as far as choosing and narrating real stories are concerned. AASHAYEIN too seems like 'our' story. Here's a man who suddenly discovers that he has a few months to live. The indomitable spirit of living life to the fullest, under all circumstances, is what you expect from him. But AASHAYEIN gets so bizarre and abstract that you feel anesthetized after a point. Sadly, you don't react to the characters, you don't react to the film either.

Final word? AASHAYEIN just doesn't meet the aashayein [hopes] of the viewer.
At a party to celebrate his big win at gambling, Rahul [John Abraham] proposes to his girlfriend Nafisa [Sonal Sehgal]. Within minutes of announcing his engagement, he collapses on the floor. After a medical diagnosis, Rahul discovers that he has only a few months left to live. He is diagnosed with lung cancer.

A distraught Rahul learns of a hospice and without sounding off his girlfriend about it, packs his bags and leaves in the middle of the night. He meets a number of people at the hospice, who may have failing health, but unfailing spirit.

For millions of viewers worldwide, Hrishikesh Mukherjee's classic ANAND [Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan] remains one of the best films on the matchless spirit of a person diagnosed with a terminal illness. The person in question [Rajesh Khanna] knows he doesn't have much time on hand and decides to spread light and cheer all around.

Though AASHAYEIN has nothing to do with ANAND [although there's a reference to the film], the least Kukunoor could've done was to narrate the story without getting into the fantasy zone. When you talk of matters as serious as death, when you show people spending their last days in a hospice, you can't deviate from the topic. Even the hospice here looks more like a small-town resort where people have come for a vacation. The seriousness is clearly missing!

On the brighter side, the sequences between John and Anaitha Nair are wonderful. Ditto between John and Farida Jalal. Salim-Sulaiman's music is in sync with the mood of the film. The song filmed on Shreyas Talpade is the pick of the lot. Sudeep Chatterjee's camera captures the outdoors well. But the writing is imprecise and like I pointed out at the outset, the culmination to this story is difficult to decipher.

Kukunoor is a master when it comes to extracting performances and AASHAYEIN also boasts of sparkling performances by each and every member of the cast. John puts a whitewash on his previous works and comes up with an honest and sincere performance. In fact, this film makes you forget that he's blessed with a striking personality. Instead, you notice the fine actor beneath the good looks and that's what makes you relate to this character for most parts.

Anaitha Nair is pure dynamite. Fiery, feisty, someone who can light fire in water. She's sure to make people notice her talent after this film. Sonal Sehgal is efficient. Girish Karnad, Farida Jalal and Prateeksha Lonkar are perfect. Ashwin Chitale [as Govinda] is natural to the core. Vikram Inamdar [as Xavier, John's friend] is alright. Sonali Sachdev [Doctor] is adequate. Shreyas Talpade appears in a song.

On the whole, AASHAYEIN falters and fails on the writing level. Not much aasha [hope] from AASHAYEIN. Nonetheless, the film has been made on a shoe-string budget and therefore, the recovery from non-theatrical avenues would keep its distributors safe, although the returns from theatrical business would be disastrous.

Akshay KUMAR Looses His TEMPER and destroys the camera of a person persistently taking his pictures

The actor loses his temper, destroys the camera of a person persistently taking his pictures without permission

Indian actor Akshay Kumar
For all the convenience they offer, most celebrities would agree that cellphones are a nuisance. They have become yet another tool to invade their privacy. Even Akshay Kumar, known to be the most patient man in the industry, lost his temper at a happy snapper outside a five-star hotel on Sunday night.

The incident took place when the actor and his wife Twinkle left the hotel and were stepping into their car. A man stepped forward from the crowd and started taking their pictures on his cell phone. The actor asked him to stop, as it made his wife uncomfortable, then reprimanded him for not asking permission before taking his pictures. But the man continued to click the star couple, which caused Akki to lose his patience.

An enraged Akshay walked upto the man, snatched his phone from his hand and threw it on the ground, then crushed it to pieces under his foot. Before the stunned cellphone owner could react, the actor got into his car and drove off.

However a source close to the Khiladi denies the incident, "Akki would never lose his temper, no matter what the provocation. A guest from the hotel did start taking pictures of Akshay and Tina, and he did get upset, but he could never get angry enough to break someone's phone. He told the man politely that the next time, he should ask for permission before taking pictures and then he left. There was no breaking of phone etc."

The source adds, "Akshay is very particular about his pictures and he always poses for pictures whenever his fans ask him to do so. He always tells people to ask before clicking his pictures as he's very particular about the angle from which he is shot. He just wants to be prepared, that's all.

He finds it rude when people take pictures when he is dining at a restaurant. No one should be clicked while chewing food, as such photos look bad. It's one of AK's pet peeves. He agrees with an actor he is close to, who likened it to stars being animals in cages and people being visitors to the zoo, who feel it's their right to click pictures at random."

You've been warned. Next time you feel the urge to point your phone camera at the actor, don't forget to start with, "May I?"

"Come to my show, I'll even solve that. I'll solve it better than our friend Raj Thackeray," Rakhi Sawant Speaks Out ...

Rakhi Sawant is big-mouthed, they say. The celebrity item girl, who will soon play agony aunt in a new reality show Rakhi Ka Insaaf, claims she has better solutions to Mumbai's growing migrant population than Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.

"Come to my show, I'll even solve that. I'll solve it better than our friend Raj Thackeray," she said when asked about a solution to the growing number of outsiders coming into Mumbai.
The 31-year-old, who was speaking at an event held to launch her new show where Rakhi will solve issues of the common man, says she has raised her voice for many issues in Mumbai. She is a Maharashtrian herself.
"There are a lot of issues in our society. I have been raising my voice from day one. No one knows me better than the media. I have barged into BMC's (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) office to get road construction done.

"There are no problems that I haven't solved. The media knows it. Name me one celebrity who has barged into BMC commissioner's office to ask them to mend your road," she said.
Rakhi is appalled with the governance in the city and is particularly against Thackeray's resistance to migrants from other states residing and working in the financial and entertainment capital of India.

"Angoothachaap log baithhe hain wahaan (Uneducated people are sitting at the helm of affairs). There are so many people who know nothing. They don't use their brain even.
"I don't think like Raj Thackeray...that anyone from Uttar Pradesh or Bihar or anywhere who comes to Mumbai is an outsider. This country, as well as this state, is of the god and the people living in it are all god's children. I don't believe in differentiating between Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian - we are all one, and Mumbai is for everyone. Everyone can earn their living here," Rakhi said in an interview.
Rakhi is seldom in a serious mood, and is known more for her outrageous publicity stunts. But this time round, she is serious.

The glamour girl, who has been seen in films like Main Hoon Naa and Dil Bole Hadippa, item numbers such as Dekhta hai tu kya and in reality shows Nach Baliye, Rakhi Ka Swayamvar and Pati, Patni Aur Woh, is also up in arms against certain issues which she feels must be solved by Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.

"If I meet Ashok Chavan, I will ask him - when the rains come, why do the roads get flooded? Despite spending so much money and taking so much tax from the citizens, why? Throughout the year roads are being made...sometimes they are made 10 times, then why is there waterlogging? What is the problem?
"Secondly, why so much tax? Why are people paying huge taxes? Rich people will still survive with their black money, but where will the poor go? Those who earn Rs.50 or Rs.20 per day...where will they go? Should poor people be removed from this country? Should they die? Should only the rich live? Don't poor have a right to live?" she said in angst.

She is extremely excited about being given a platform like Rakhi Ka Insaaf to offer solutions to the common people for their personal problems like extra-marital affairs, alcoholic husband, atrocities by in-laws and wife beating.

Rakhi said she will give solutions to people in her unique style, which is bold, honest, and forthright.
"I have lived a very tough life. I have seen 'dukh', 'sukh', 'kathinaayi' (sadness, happiness and difficulty) and overcome it all. I have always fought for my right and that too honestly. So I feel I will be able to connect very well with the victims of such problems, and provide solutions through my heart," she said.
She said her show is not about giving legal justice to people. It is for those who want to amicably resolve their domestic issues without getting entangled in the web of court proceedings.

"I am no police, I don't even have any educational degree, but I have a degree in life management...so that, and my belief in god will help me suggest the right solutions to those who approach me on the show," she said.
