Salman didn't buy me a house: Asin

How difficult was it for daddy’s daughter to work independently after her father was hospitalised?

It wasn’t very difficult. Asin More Pics
My dad was never a baby-sitter on the sets. Between us, it’s a client-and-manager kind of a relationship. Since I don’t have a manager or a secretary, my father plays a three-in-one role. Recently, I went to Bangalore to launch the Bangalore Food Guide. I called him up at one in the morning to just wish him good night. Even then, his phone was engaged! My work-related issues had been keeping him busy so late in the night. Now, there is somebody to accompany me in his place. The only difference is, since this person is doing a professional job, the personal touch of having my father around, is missing.

Do you have your parents accompany you while shooting?

My mother, who is a doctor, has opted for VRS. My father isn’t there to stare into the monitor as I shoot. He sees to it that everything is organised, and then leaves. It’s disturbing when people confuse my father with the ‘baby-ko-juice-doh’ kind of parents who are always there on the sets. My dad is an independent thinker and never indulges in such behaviour

How difficult is it to shoot romantic scenes in your father’s presence?

I’m quite comfortable when he is around. It’s my profession. If I can agree to a scene that will be viewed by my parents in the audience, why won’t I be able to shoot it in front of them?

A lot is being said about how Salman Khan gifted you a house ...

How silly is that! I’ve been living in the same house ever since I went to Mumbai to shoot for Ghajini. I hadn’t even met Salman then. The media has got him to gift me a new house, someone to do the interiors and even adorned my walls with his paintings and posters!

Isn’t the audience mature enough to understand that these link-up stories are a part of the movie’s marketing strategy?

There are so many untrue stories and misquotes that I think many people would have become conscious of the media games. Of course, a percentage would want to believe it as a topic of discussion, even if they actually have doubts about it.

Can’t the publicists of a film be responsible for this too?

I’m not familiar with such a strategy. During Ghajini, I knew exactly how the movie would be promoted by first releasing Aamir’s look. But the London Dreams team has not discussed anything of that sort with me.

How differently do Salman and Aamir approach a role?

Salman is very relaxed and chilled out. He is spontaneous and even if he has done the homework for his role in his mind, on the sets, he does an impromptu job. In Ghajini, Aamir would come and discuss the role with me, suggest changes and seek suggestions. As for me, I prefer a mixture of both.

You’ve featured in the Lead India campaign to woo voters. Ever considered campaigning for individual stars?

No. I’ve been approached in the south, but I have always declined such offers. Be it difficult or easy, one has to say no when one doesn’t want to do something.

KANGANA RANAUT: The New FHM Girl

Kareena Works 36 Hours Without Break

The fans usually just look at the fame and interesting lifestyle that the film stars have and tend to overlook the hard work put in by them.

Recently Kareena Kapoor, one of the most successful actresses in filmdom, had to shoot for 36 hours without a break.

The actress has a chock-a-block schedule thanks to films like "Kambakkht Ishq", "3 Idiots", "Agent Vinod", "Mr and Mrs Khanna" and an untitled movie by Rensil D'silva in her kitty. She just went rushing from one set to another.

Kareena shot continuously without complaining about tiredness or any lack of sleep. Onlookers said that this is what stars are made of and it was a really good gesture from the actress to shoot without any complaints.

The sexiest couples of Indian Cinema

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor

The fan-friendly pairing of Chote Nawab and Bebo ranks first on our list of Bollywood couples. Saif and Kareena are notorious for their "story-till-now" trysts. The pair's love life has been the tastiest tabloid fodder of 2008. Saif and Kareena, on their part, have kept the buzz alive with their on-screen as well as off-screen antics. Who can forget the Kareena tattoo on Saif's arm? Marriage, they say, is on the cards.

John Abraham and Bipasha Basu

Super hunk-meets-Femme Fatale: it's picture perfect! The six-year-old (gulp) "fling" has prompted tabloids to appoint reporters solely for the John-Bips "beat"!

The duo seems to have struck a balance between their careers and personal lives. Nuptial knot? Don't you have better questions?!

Kamal Haasan and Gouthami

Kamal Haasan's name cannot be discussed without mentioning his rocking love affairs - both on-screen and off-screen. Gouthami, who had been paired up with the 'Ulaga Nayagan' in superhits such as 'Appu Raja' and 'Kuruthi Punal', has been Kamal's partner for the last few years.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif

Salman is notorious for being a serial-dater and this has reportedly prevented Katrina from taking "the next step". The couple are also increasingly sought after by filmmakers to be cast as on-screen lovers.

By the way, are Sallu and Kats still on talking terms? Who is Bruna Abdullah?

Ajith and Shalini

Shalini and Ajith Kumar met each other during the shooting for 'Amarkkalam' (1999), and it did not took long for them to fall headlong into love. For months, gossip on their secret love story ate up newspaper reels. They got married on April 24, 2000 at Chennai.

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone

The couple is a heady combo of beauty, talent and plenty of buzz. Rumoured to have found love on the sets of 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', Ranbir and Deepika have remained a flash-bulb favourite ever since. With surnames to live upto, the young couple have just started out in Bollywood and it remains to be seen whether their career and relationship would last long.

SRK in India, says Won't Go Back till KKR Win !

Disappointed over his team's dismal performance in IPL Season 2, Shah Rukh Khan has returned to India
and has vowed not to go back till the Knight Riders start winning.

King Khan said on Wednesday, "I won't return to South Africa unless the team starts winning.
I feel really sad when I see my team losing. They are trying very hard, so it's even more tough to digest the losses.
I will only return to South Africa and cheer for my team when they start winning."

Shah Rukh's Knght Riders have been on a losing spree for some time now.
The team has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons - the dismal performance,
the controversies surrounding the multi-captaincy theory put forward by coach J
ohn Buchanan and the sacking of Sourav Ganguly as captain.

The Knight Riders have won just one match out of the five that they have played so far.

However, the Badshah of Bollywood is hoping that the bad run will end soon
and the team will return to "it''s cracking form".

A Tribute to Feroz Khan

Actor-director-producer Feroz Khan died at the age of 70 after battling cancer for a few years. Here's a look at some of his memorable movies.

Feroz Khan began his Bollywood career in 1962 with the film Reporter Raju, in which he played the main role.

In the 1960s, he acted in roughly two films per year. In 1965, he acted in Oonche Log along with veteran actor Ashok Kumar and Raj Kumar.

Also in 1965, Feroz Khan acted opposite Kumkum in Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena

In 1967, Feroz Khan acted opposite Mumtaz in C.I.D 909.

In 1972, Feroz Khan turned director with the film Apradh, in which he acted opposite Mumtaz once again.

Major success came to Feroz Khan in 1975 with Dharmatma, where he acted opposite Rekha and Hema Malini. This film too was directed by Feroz Khan himself.

Feroz Khan's most successful film till date remains Qurbani in 1980. The film, directed by Feroz Khan, starred himself, Vinod Khanna and bollywood sex-symbol Zeenat Aman.

In 1982, Feroz Khan acted opposite Reena Roy in Kachchay Heere.

In the mid-1980s, Feroz Khan did very few films. After a gap of nearly five years, he returned in 1986 with the hit film Janbaaz, starring Anil Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia.
In 1988, Feroz Khan did a supporting role in the controversial film Dayavan starring Vinod Khanna and Madhuri Dixit. This film too was directed by Feroz Khan himself.

Also in 1988, Feroz Khan acted along with Sanjeev Kumar in Do Waqt Ki Roti opposite Reena Roy.

After Prem Aggan, Feroz Khan took yet another break from Bollywood, returning in 2003 with Janasheen, which starrted his son Fardeen and Celina Jaitely while he played a supporting role.

In 2005, Fardeen and Feroz teamed up once again, this time for Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena. The leading lady of the film was Koena Mitra.

Feroz Khan's final film, Welcome came in 2007. He played a supporting role in the film that starred Anil Kapoor

Even in his early days, Feroz Khan never stuck to the prescribed look most actors did. He sported long or short hair depending on what he felt like doing.

Since Feroz Khan was known as the style icon of Bollywood, here's a look at his flamboyant fashion sense!

Feroz Khan sporting a look borrowed from Hollywood Western films

A few years ago, Feroz Khan started experimenting with headgear. He wore stylised turbans or scarves to many Bollywood events

Bips didn't stop me from pairing with Vidya: John

By Subhash K. Jha

Is John Abraham doing a film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali? "I'd love to! I've met him. But not for Chenab Gandhi, as reported. I don't know who started this. I've met Mr. Bhansali for a completely different project.

And if all goes well, we'll be working together very soon. Just meeting him is such an enriching experience. I wonder what working with him would be like!"

Rubbishing rumours that he gave up a Bhansali project because his girlfriend Bipasha Basu didn't want him to do it John says, "The truth is, I was shooting abroad when Mr. Bhansali's office was trying to get in touch. It was Bipasha who put me on to them. It's amazing what conclusions people draw without checking their facts."

He also admits he isn't always easily accessible. "When I'm shooting abroad, I completely switch off. And I don't have a publicist. If I did, I'd get all the rumours about me clarified."

Akshay leaps off a 5-storied building minus cables

Trust Akshay Kumar to do the unexpected! Earlier, the action superstar stumped everyone by getting unzipped by wife Twinkle Khanna at Lakme Fashion Week (However, it’s another thing that the act backfired). And this time, he performed a breathtaking high-voltage stunt by leaping from a five storied building minus cables and landing on corrugated boxes with ease.

This adrenalin rushing sequence is his introductory scene in Sajid Nadiadwala's ‘Kambakkth Ishq’. According to sources, he plays a stuntman in the film and is performing a stunt for actor Brandon Routh (of Superman Returns fame).

Director Sabbir Khan said that the high-end action scene was coordinated by action director Spiros Razzatos, "The scene has Akshay smashing through a window of glass and falling through the fifth floor. He's the body double for Brandon.”

Talking about the scene, Sabbir said, “We rehearsed the scene with cables and wires but when it came for the final take, Akshay decided at the last minute, that he wanted to do the scene without them. He felt that way, it would look more realistic. Akshay rehearsed a few times, then went up and did in one take.”

“He had to do it in one take as we have Brandon immediately standing at the same place in the same frame. I was very apprehensive there were no cables to help Akshay if things went wrong. I was very stressed. Of course, it's compulsory to have a doctor, first aid and a huge medical set-up on the sets... I guess Akshay wanted to prove that he's the original action star and he did that on that day. He's fearless," revealed Sabbir.

Talking about the experience, Akshay said, "A man that hosts a show called Fear Factor isn't exactly allowed to be scared. I jump... I tumble, I fall and I dare to do the impossible. Am I scared? YES! But I live to feel fear. I've faced death too much in my life to be worried about anything or anyone anymore; that's why I enjoy life so much. I fight fear, I don't live with it."

Well said Mr Akki, thankfully this act of yours did not backfire!

Kajol and Karan Johar in a huge tiff?

Shah Rukh Khan – Kajol starrer My Name Is Khan directed by their best buddy Karan Johar seems to be spoiling relations between Kajol and KJo.

A source reveals, “One big schedule of the film has already been wrapped up in the USA before SRK’s shoulder surgery.

Now Karan is busy shooting some portions of the film in Mumbai’s Borivili area with Slumdog Millionaire child actor Tanay Chheda who plays SRK’s childhood part. Post SRK coming back from his IPL 2 commitments from South Africa there is yet another schedule being planned for the US.

But Kajol it seems is not too keen on shooting out of India given that she has to leave her daughter Nysa back home now that she’s going to school. So while the shooting in Mumbai in June coincided with Nysa’s school days, Kajol had no problems.

But Karan also has to shoot some more sequences in New York, which Kajol is refusing to oblige with. She was informed that there would be only one schedule in the US, which she’d agreed to. But now since Karan wants to go back for whatever reasons, Kajol is adamant and just won’t.”

Another insider reveals, “Karan expects that his good friend understands his problem but Kajol wants him to shoot these portions in Mumbai itself on specially built sets.

But Karan being Karan he just doesn’t want to compromise on such things. So now that’s a deadlock even the King Khan might not be able to resolve.”

Hollywood names milk shake after Mallika Sherawat

Hollywood is famous for naming milk shakes after famous stars and our very own B-wood actress Mallika Sherawat joined the league which includes Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, David Beckham and Paris Hilton to name a few.

The Mallika Shake is a mix of blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, chocolate sauch and whipped cream.

Well the shake seems berry berry hawt!!!

Bips skirt drops while performing

Ever since Bipasha Basu’s performance in the hit song Beedi Jalailye from Omkara, the actress has been in great demand for live performances. Recently Bipasha paid tribute to the music of the 70s at a music awards ceremony. She was all set to enthrall the audience with her performance when she had a wardrobe malfunction with her skirt and the prop that she was planning to use, said a source. “

This happened not once but thrice. The actress felt helpless since it was all happening at the last minute. Despite these problems, Bipasha did not let it hamper her performance. The actress had to change her costume in between dances but she took it all in her stride. She carried the entire show with grace without giving a hint that she was upset with the costumes,” added the source.

Ash loses to Mani Ratnam

As everybody knows, Mani Ratnam is a perfectionist. He never sits content till he gets the desired result from a shot. Recently, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came to know of it the hard way, according to a source. Ash has been shooting for Mani's bilingual in Tamil and Hindi, tentatively titled Ravan.

In the second half of the film, Ash is playing a grief-stricken woman, and Mani wanted his leading leady to be make up-less so as to portray her role well. The sources say, Ash was not happy with the demands made by the director and whenever possible, she tried to put on a basic make up. But, most of the time, she was caught red-handed by the director and was asked to remove them!

Asin shifts her focus to MS Dhoni

Recently there was news saying that something is going on in between Asin and Salman Khan. Asin denied all these rumors saying that the couple share only professional relationship. According to latest information She's floored by MS Dhoni’s swashbuckling moves and calls herself his biggest fan.

“Asin is bowled over by Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The Southern siren's heart beats for neither her Ghajini co-star Aamir nor does she day-dreams about her London Dreams co-star Salman Khan but it's only Dhoni for her. Asin's prayers have been answered. She will soon get to meet and spend time with him,” said a source close to her.

Akki Is The Highest Tax Payer Of Bollywood

The Khan duo of the sizzling Bollywood may be vying each other to cling to the No 1 position in terms of their star value. But the Income tax department has no doubts. For them, Akki is the top star in Bolowood. As per the statistics, Akshay Kumar has dethroned Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan by a narrow margin.

Yes, Akshay Kumar has been confirmed the highest tax payer in 2008-09. According to sources, Akshay Kumar has paid a whopping Rs 31 crore to the IT department. However, Shah Rukh is not far behind. According to sources, "Akshay has declared a taxable income of something around Rs. 125-150 crore to the Income Tax department .

Similarly, the economic slump seems to have made no impact as such in the earning of the stars. Top ten earners in Bollywood paid 17.7 percent more as tax amounts compared to the previous year.

Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan has paid Rs 30.99 crore as tax in the 2008-09 fiscal. Gone by the statistics, the top ten Bollywood starts together have paid a whopping Rs 107 crore as taxes. The same set had paid Rs 90.90 crore in 2007-08.

Aamir Khan, the other big Khan in the Bollywood seems to have no intention to take on Shah Rukh Khan in the tax front. Aamir Khan stood at the third position in the top league of tax payers.

Similarly, Salman Khan came in fourth position as he paid Rs 8.6 crore as tax money in 2008-09.

The last two years have given Akshay huge amount of success and of course money has followed him everywhere. This will be surpassing reigning Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's taxable income of Rs. 100 crore."

Whereas in 2007, SRK had paid advance taxes of Rs 27 crore till December 15, putting his income for 2007-08 at over Rs 100 crore. It was a glittering jump from the money he made the previous fiscal when he paid a modest Rs 18 crore in tax.

After Aamir, Murugadoss now wants to direct SRK

After teaming up with Aamir Khan in the hit movie "Ghajini", Tamil director director Murugadoss now wants to work with Shah Rukh Khan and says he is working on a story right now.

"Yes, I'm working on a subject. I had a meeting with Shah Rukh Khan once and I discussed a story with him. But frankly nothing has been finalised. We are still to meet many a times before a decision is taken," Murugadoss told reporters Monday at the launch of new Kannada film "Suryakanthi".

The director also said he had several rounds of discussion with lead actor Aamir who helped him to create a different script.

"You can see the change in ambience, narration in the Hindi version of 'Ghajini'. I couldn't have made a frame to frame remake of the (Tamil) film. I agreed with Aamir Khan that the climax needs to be changed. And his suggestions were really helpful in adding valuable commercial elements in the film. Aamir Khan is a brilliant actor and director," said Murugadoss.

Apart from Aamir starrer, Murugadoss has so far directed three Tamil films - "Dheena", "Ramana", "Ghajini". He has also directed Telugu film "Stalin" that had Chiranjeevi in lead role. All his five films have been big hits.

A graduate from the Bharathidas University, the 37-year-old director says he writes his own scripts and that reading books and interacting with people help him in writing good stories.

"A director should have a world view. His vision can not be limited when he takes up different type of films. I am interested to know many things and would like to do more research whenever I intend to work with innovative concepts," said Murugadoss.

Nandana Sen refuses to go topless

After the controversial nude scenes in Ketan Mehta's Rang Rasiya, Nandana Sen got another highly-prestigious offer that required her to go topless.

Italian filmmaker Italo Spinelli offered Nandana the lead of a tribal woman who's surreptitiously shot nude by a photographer.
The film is based on Bengali litterateur Mahashweta Devi's provocative and controversial story Choli Ke Peeche. The role offered to Nandana was pivotal tempting and challenging.

Nandana was sorely tempted. But doing a full-on topless sequence which is a crucial part of the narrative, so soon after Rang Rasiya, was just not on Nandana's agenda.

She has reluctantly and after much deliberation said No, throwing the whole project to be started later this year, into back gear.

Nandana explains, "It's a good project directed by Italo Spinelli, produced by RAI, shot by Blasco Giurardo, the cinematographer of Cinema Paradiso.

It's a powerful story and although I support it fully, I feel the subject matter is such that the tribal girl's nudity cannot avoid becoming unintentionally voyeuristic and eroticised even though that is definitely not the objective.

If you remember, previously too I passed on various other international projects because of a similar concern."

Nandana made an exception with Ketan Mehta's film. "Rang Rasiya focuses on the increasing critical topic of censorship of art. Remember what happened in Jehangir art gallery last month?

Ketan's film deals entirely with the freedom to paint the human figure in its natural beauty.

The emotional drama as well as the political message of the film revolve around one critical and excessively talked- about scene of Sugandha, the muse, having the courage to break the rules of the time to pose for Ravi Varma (Randeep Hooda) and create a masterpiece of art together."

But having said this, Nandana says no to nudity, no matter how aesthetic. Could the fact that she intends to tie the knot with steady boyfriend Madhu Mantena have something to do with her decision to forego such a plum assignment?
