Salman Khan's beefed up, bronzed look in Veer

Few years ago, Shah Rukh Khan played the role of Veer in Yash Chopra's love story Veer-Zaara. Now Salman Khan is all set to star in an action film titled Veer.

The story of this film (directed by Anil Sharma) has been written by Salman himself and while we did show you some pics of the actor in his new look for Veer earlier, this picture gives you a clearer idea of what to expect from this flick.

Salman, who is always known for experimenting with his looks, is seen in a beefed up, bronzed look with unusually long hair. The actor is seen wearing a fur jacket and an ethnic neckpiece and kada (bangle) Also from the looks of it, Salman seems to be playing a warrior of another era given the fact that he is seen holding a sword in one hand and a shield in the other.

In the recent past, Abhishek Bachchan tried the 'superhero meets warrior' look in Drona but unfortunately the film sank without a trace. Will Sallu bhai be able to pull of this warrior act in Veer, one will have to wait and watch.

I wear 137 costumes in 'Fashion': Priyanka Chopra

In Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Fashion', actress Priyanka Chopra will be seen in an unbelievable 137 outfits in the film!

Priyanka plays a small-town girl, Meghna Mathur, who goes on to become a supermodel in Mumbai. The dresses support the five subtle but distinct phases her character goes through in the film.

'I wear 137 costumes in 'Fashion', and it was required as my character goes through a huge journey in one-and-a-half years. And we had a lot of montages in the film, a lot of ad commercials and of course fashion shows, which is why the requirement of costumes was so high for my character,' Priyanka told IANS in an interview.

Priyanka is seen flaunting a range of clothes from designer wear, while sashaying down the ramp, to t-shirts and jeans while portraying a model's normal life.
Throwing light on her different looks in the film, she said: 'There are five changes that happen to my character in the film. When she comes from Chandigarh, she has a little bit of a small-town kind of styling, then she becomes a model... a little more polished. She then becomes very stylish and then a supermodel.

'When she loses her head, she becomes very arrogant and her make-up becomes darker and a lot more edgy. Then during her downfall, I am devoid of make- up. The resurrection portion is softer because she is scared and broken while trying to regain her self-confidence. We tried all those looks to keep different so that the character's journey looks seamless through the film.'

The much-awaited 'Fashion' is a take on the Indian fashion industry and also stars Kangana Ranaut, debutante Mugdha Godse, Arbaaz Khan, Arjan Bajwa and many of the who's who of the fashion fraternity.
Taking on Meghna's role was not a cakewalk for the beauty queen-turned-actress, as she had to go for method acting for her character.

'I added on six kilograms to look like a girl from Punjab before shedding it off as the film progresses. I went through a learning process to make my character look real. I had to study the character to live it and the film is looking good,' Priyanka said.
However, not many know that Priyanka was initially apprehensive of signing on for the project and kept it on hold for six months.

'I said yes to 'Fashion' after six months. I wasn't sure about many things when it came to me. Also, I wasn't pretty sure about myself... whether I'd be able to do justice to the role or not. But Madhur showed immense confidence in me and I finally said yes,' she revealed.
The actress was thrilled when she started working as she got to catch up with her old friends from the ramp world during the shooting.

'I got to meet all my old friends - Nayonika (Chatterjee), Diandra (Soares), Bhawna (Sharma) and Lubna (Adams). I got to hang out with them. It brought back so much because Nayonika was the first one who taught me how to walk the ramp and I've always looked up to her with a lot of respect.
'I knew if I was doing this film, she had to be on board. I begged her but she refused to come because she has a young daughter in Delhi and she couldn't come to Mumbai for the entire duration of the film. But I insisted that she be there for every show in the film and she kindly obliged,' the actress said.

The year so far hasn't proved quite successful for Priyanka as all four of her releases - 'Love Story 2050', 'God Tussi Great Ho', 'Chamku' and 'Drona' - turned out to be box office duds. The actress, however, does not shy away from her failures and is optimistic about her career.
'Nobody can decide the destiny of a film. My films haven't done well and I haven't shied away from that. I don't think failures really affect careers very much if you are good in the film,' she said.
Priyanka will be next seen in Dharma Productions' 'Dostana' and is also shooting for films like 'Kaminay' and

'What's Your Raashee'.
She also has sequels to 'Don - The Chase Begins Again' and 'Drona' already in her kitty apart from an item number opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 'Billo Barber'.

I am not in love with Sreesanth - Shriya

Shriya has emphatically denied rumors that she is in love with cricketer Sreesanth.
A few days ago, the two took part in a fashion show in Mumbai. It was alleged that the two had dinner and left in a car together.

However, when contacted, Shriya denied the reports terming them as false. 'I am acting in a movie directed by Deepa Mehta. I am preparing myself for it. There is no place for romance in my life now. I am committed to acting', she said.

'I have not met Sreesanth before and never spoken to him', she said.

Gay kissing scene dropped from Fashion

Madhur Bhandarkar is known for making hard-hitting and realistic cinema; hence facing controversies around his film's release is something which is not new to this talented filmmaker.

His latest film Fashion starring Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut and Mugdha Godse in lead roles opened across cinema halls yesterday (Oct 29) and this time too, Madhur had to deal with a fair share of controversies.

Firstly, there were rumors that Kangna's character in the film has been inspired by noted Delhi based model Geetanjali Nagpal. Then the censor board irked Madhur by giving him an 'A' certificate as they felt the film had certain objectionable scenes for kids.

However, the director could have got himself into more trouble had he included a gay kissing scene in the film.

The scene had actors Samir Soni and Anil Kumar share a kiss in a car but Madhur decided to drop the scene at the last minute as he didn't want any further complications

. However, for all of you who indeed want to have a dekko of the same, the director is planning to include it in the DVD of the film. Must say, Madhur has already started promoting the DVD of Fashion in a smart way.

Saif Is My Perfect Man: Kareena

Kareena Kapoor, as she grows older, is being more and more candid with the media. In a recent interview, she was more willing to talk about things like her diet, Shahid, and Saif.

Talking about her break-up with Shahid Kapoor she said, “It was a very difficult perieod. Whatever went wrong between Shahid and me is very personal. I have always maintained that Shahid will always be a part of my life. But, we are better off as friends. There is no animosity… Some times there are no reasones for things that happen in life. Even if there’s one, I dont think its right to talk about it openly.”

Moving on to Saif, Kareena says he is her perfect man. “He is fun and extremely loyal. He has all the qualities which I always wanted in a man. He is also very supportive and gives me space.”

Marriage she says will happen in about 2-3 years time hopefully with Saif. Till then she just wants to be with him

At 35, Aishwarya is most bankable Bollywood girl

At 35, Bollywood's blue-eyed-girl Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who celebrates her birthday on Saturday, continues to woo Indian filmmakers with her international appeal, making her one of the most bankable stars in the Indian film industry.

Says a popular film critic: “Aishwarya's career graph has been very good though not excellent but she is the only actress who can attract national and international crowds. She is the face of so many international brands and a very good actress also.”

London-based Indian filmmaker Jagmohan Mundhra, who directed the actress in the critically acclaimed English movie “Provoked”, also credits her as a superstar with an international appeal.

“She is a superstar. Not only is she a recognised name worldwide; she is a totally bankable star. My personal experience with her from 'Provoked' says that the film wouldn't have worked without her.

“The best thing about her is that despite her stature, she is completely a director's actor. She would also give her inputs in the character and would never come back to see a shot once the director approves it. She is thoroughly professional, ” Mundhra added.

Aishwarya, now married to Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, was born in Mangalore to Krishnaraj Rai, a marine biologist, and Vrinda Rai, a writer.

After winning the Miss World crown in 1994, Aishwarya took to acting in 1997 with a Tamil film “Iruvar” opposite southern superstar Mohanlal and made her Bollywood debut in the same year opposite Bobby Deol in "Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya". Both films bombed.

In the following year, she won her first Filmfare Best Actress award South for the Tamil film “Jeans” but became an overnight star with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” in 1999. She bagged the Filmfare Best Actress award for this too.

In 2000, she gave a power packed performance in Subhash Ghai's "Taal" but followed it up with a string of flops like "Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai" (2000), "Dhai Akshar Prem Ke" (2000), "Albela" (2001), "Hum Kisise Kum Nahi" (2001) and many more.

In between, she was recognised for her supporting role in Yash Chopra's 2000 hit “Mohabbatein”. Her career was resurrected in 2002 with Bhansali's “Devdas” fetching her another Filmfare award in the Best Actress category.

She was highly appreciated for her performances in “Chokher Bali" (2002), “Raincoat” (2004), "Guru" (2006), “Dhoom 2” (2006), "Provoked" (2007), “Jodhaa Akbar” (2008) and “Sarkar Raj” (2008).

In her career spanning 11 years, Aishwarya has acted in over 40 movies in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and English. Her English projects included “Bride & Prejudice” (2003), “Mistress of Spices” (2005), and “The Last Legion” (2007).

She is also starring in another international project “Pink Panther 2”, a sequel to the original comedy. The beauty queen-turned-actress is also counted among the 100 most beautiful women in the world.

Actress Priyanka Chopra feels that “Aishwarya has a perfect face”.

“She is a gorgeous lady, a very elegant person and a great representative of India abroad and I think she has made some great cinema recently. I'd like to watch a lot more of her in films, ” Priyanka told.

After her wedding in April last year, Aishwarya has cut down on her projects and has become very choosy too. But critic feels it is only due to her “added family responsibilities”.

Currently, the actress is busy shooting with Abhishek in Kochi for Mani Ratnam's forthcoming film tentatively titled “Raavan”.

Minissha disappointed with her failed Bikini act

Bollywood actress Minissha Lamba, whose much-hyped last venture "Kidnap" bombed at the box office, says she is disappointed that the film didn't turn out well at the box office.

"I am disappointed that 'Kidnap' didn't turn out well. It really feels sad when you work so hard for a film and which is so close to you and it doesn't do well, " Minissha said.

The actress shaved off seven kg for her role as a 17-year-old teenager in the film following a rigorous regime over a period of eight months. However, Minissha says she would never go to the extremes of putting on mass for a character in any film.

"I am never ever going to put on weight for a character in a film. I am one of those body types who find it very difficult losing weight and so I am never going to do that. Putting on weight is a nightmare for me, " she said.

Rani Mukherjee First Look As Sadar In Yash Raj Next Movie

Yes, there have been several rumors about Rani Mukherjee’s character in Yash Raj Films’s next directed by Anurag Singh. But the truth is finally out. Looking at the pictures below, you must have guessed by now that Rani disguises herself as a Sardar in the movie.

Rumour gas it that Rani plays the role of a cricket enthusiast, who is obsessed with the sport, so much so that she will go to any level to play it. This obsession pushes her to disguise herself as a man and enter in all male cricket squad.

Shahid Kapoor who plays the male lead opposite Rani Mukherjee in the movie, also seems to be a part of the cricket team. However, no official confirmation about the movie’s storyline has come from YRF, hence, we will have to wait and watch how Rani makes her way in to the cricket team and how well she is at playing the sport.

Also, it will be interesting to see the chemistry between Rani and Shahid on screen since the camaraderie between the two looks marvelous in the above picture.

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone says she wants to do badminton filim..

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone says she wants to do a sports-based film, preferably on badminton, her father's sport.

"Look at what 'Chak De India' did to hockey. I would love to do a really good film on the game of badminton. In fact, efforts are on to put a project like this together."

"I would like to contribute as much as possible to sports. Yes, I'd support badminton more than any other sport. But I'd like to support Indian sports in every way possible," she said.

Deepika, who played badminton with her dad Prakash Padukone, said the two were playing together after a long time and for the first time in front of media.

She said she is good at time management and that comes from being a sport person. "I started travelling at a very young age. That taught me to be punctual."

Sharing her experience on the stunts and martial arts performed in "Chandni Chowk To China", Deepika said she got herself a chronically sprained ankle.

"The stunts in 'Chandni Chowk To China' were tough. Fortunately I got no broken bones. But I got a twisted ankle which will remain with me. My left ankle will remain sprained for all my life."

"I sprained it once while rehearsing and then I sprained the same ankle at exactly the same place twice again. Luckily it's not a fracture. But I can't sit cross-legged or sit on my hunches... I can't do anything that requires me to put my weight on my left leg," she said.

Being from an athletic family, Deepika always wanted to do an action film.

"Yes, I always wanted to do an action character. I'm glad I got an opportunity. Akshay Kumar was a fantastic co-star. The way he comes on the sets and goes through the scenes of the day and the way he improvises, is tremendous."

Speaking on endorsements, Deepika said she has turned down the Nakshatra diamond deal after Aishwarya Rai's contract ended.

"I don't know who else they went to. But they did come to me. And things didn't work out. I'm as selective about my endorsements as I am about my movies. I'd definitely endorse brands that I believe in. I'd like to represent brands that suit my age. I'm endorsing the Signature brand for Levis, Kingfisher Airlines, Tissot."

King Khan will light up your next Diwali

For all those who felt bad about the fact that King Khan was missing in action this Diwali, there's some good news.

There will be much of SRK in the latter part of 2009. The word is that Yash Raj Films have signed up their favourite SRK again.

No, this one isn't a comeback vehicle for old-timer Yash Chopra but a film with Ashutosh Gowarikar's assistant Rakesh Kapoor (the Yash Raj banner is promoting another new talent!)

Rakesh has reportedly said, "I cannot say anything. I just want to thank Adi (Aditya Chopra) as he called me up last week and selected my script and me as director. I am really excited as this will be the biggest film to come out in 2009, touchwood.

Shah Rukh is fixed and my friends Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are doing the music. We are starting from March after Shah Rukh comes back from the US. Adi has said that they will release this film on 2009 Diwali."

SRK's 'My Name Is Khan' directed by Karan Johar is also releasing around Christmas 2009 and if this film happens it will be a double bonanza for SRK fans! His home production 'Billoo Barber' releases early next year as well.

So it's King Khan all the way in 2009!

Aamir Khan play Kishore Kumar ?

Aamir Khan Percept Picture Company has planned a biopic on legendry actor and singer Kishore Kumar. Apparently PPC has offered a lead role to Aamir Khan, which was revealed by the actor himself.

“I have been approached by Percept Pictures for the film on Kishore Kumar. They have asked me to play the role of Kishore Kumar. However, I am yet to complete reading the full script. If the script appears fresh and interesting, I don't see any reason why I shall not do the film. I have been a great fan of Kishore Kumar. Golmaal Returns - Movie Review From IndiaFM by Taran Adarsh

Two years ago, Rohit Shetty came up with a breezy entertainer GOLMAAL, which, most people agree, is the capable director's finest work to date. The comic scenes hit the right notes and buttons. Perhaps, that must've prompted its producers [Shree Ashtavinayak] and Rohit to continue with the GOLMAAL series.

But GOLMAAL RETURNS treats the viewer like a nitwit, with zero brains. No-brainer laughathons have worked in the past and people have catapulted these films to 'must watch again and again' category. But GOLMAAL RETURNS is simply unbearable!

35 years ago, the Kiran Kumar - Radha Saluja comedy AAJ KI TAZAA KHABAR [1973] is the inspiration for GOLMAAL RETURNS. No issues with that, it's an interesting concept. But screenplay writer Yunus Sajawal makes a mincemeat of the material, so much so that your head starts aching after a point and you want to tear your hair in disgust.

Seriously, what was the writer thinking when he came up with a pathetic screenplay? And how did a talented director like Rohit Shetty agree to ride on it? And how could an accomplished actor like Ajay Devgan green signal this enterprise? Questions, questions, questions...

GOLMAAL RETURNS was never meant to be a thinking man's film, but the attitude is, no-brainer comedies have worked and this one will work too. To give the credit where it's due, a few jokes/sequences involving Tusshar and Shreyas do bring a smile on your face, but in the absence of a tight screenplay, the film falls like a pack of cards.

Final word? Golmaal hai bhai script golmaal hai!

Gopal [Ajay Devgan], who lives with his wife Ekta [Kareena Kapoor], sister Esha [Amrita Arora] and brother-in-law Lucky [Tusshar Kapoor], gets stuck in a yacht after saving an attractive woman Meera [Celina Jaitly] from some goons. Both end up spending the night on the yacht and when he comes home the next day, his painfully suspicious wife, who is also a hardcore fan of the saas-bahu serials, smell fish.

Gopal knows it's going to be hard to quell her suspicion, so he concocts a cock-and-bull story about having stayed the night with a fictitious friend called Anthony Gonsalves. Ekta refuses to buy his yarn and writes to Anthony [on a fictitious address given to her by Gopal], asking him to visit her.

Gopal convinces his junior at work, Laxman [Shreyas Talpade], to pretend to be Anthony. Everything goes according to plan till the real Anthony turns up.

If that isn't complication enough for Gopal, a dead body is discovered at the location where he had saved Meera. The Investigating Officer, Madhav [Arshad Warsi], who is Esha's boyfriend and also who cannot stand the sight of Gopal, learns that the latter had been missing from home that eventful night and begins checking on him.

A sequel carries the baggage of humungous expectations. And you definitely expect GOLMAAL RETURNS to be a step forward. The makers had thundered, "GOLMAAL RETURNS is bigger, it's better" and that raises the bar. But the film is such a put off.

Writer Yunus Sajawal takes an interesting premise, but instead of upgrading it, only downgrades it with lacklustre situations. The writing is so weak, so lifeless that after a point you sit motionless, looking at the goings-on mechanically, instead of being a participant.

A few sequences do entertain you, but they're few and far between. Not enough to camouflage the defects. In view of the fact that the writing is so weak, there's not much that director Rohit Shetty can do to save the ship from sinking. However, the dialogues are howlarious. Music is not as inspiring. 'Tha Karke' is the best track, while 'Tu Saala' [well promoted] isn't there in the film and 'Meow' comes during the end credits. And you're exasperated by then!

GOLMAAL RETURNS belongs to Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade. Tusshar is terrific yet again, the real scene stealer, while Shreyas displays his comic side very well. Both, in fact, provide respite to the viewer. Ajay Devgan is likable. Kareena does the suspicious wife act well. Celina stays on your mind even after the show is over.

Arshad Warsi is relegated to the backseat. Amrita Arora is strictly okay. Anjana Sukhani gets no scope. Vrajesh Hirjee is alright. Sharat Saxena, Rakhi Vijan, Sanjay Mishra, Murli Sharma, Mukesh Tiwari and Ashwini Kalsekar fill in the blanks.

On the whole, there's tremendous curiosity to watch GOLMAAL RETURNS and the terrific promotion has only enhanced the excitement. But the film is a major letdown in terms of content. Barring a few jokes and gags, this GOLMAAL pales when compared to its first part. At the box-office, expect a terrific start for the film, but GOLMAAL RETURNS lacks the power to stand on its feet after the initial euphoria settles down.

Theatrical Trailer (Raaz 2 - The Mystery Continues)

Movie Review "FASHION" - (IndiaFM - Taran Adarsh)

Are you ready for an expose on the fashion industry? Where designers pass off 'Indira Market, Bangkok' stuff as their own creation. Where ad agency/fashion mag honchos call the shots. Wild lifestyles, backstage dramas, wardrobe malfunction, casting couch… ouch, ouch, ouch!

Madhur Bhandarkar, the undisputed king of realistic fares, comes up with yet another hard-hitting film that enlightens you, moves you, motivates and deflates you, even shocks and surprises you and of course, entertains you.
The solid reason why FASHION works is because Madhur brings alive everything you've read in newspapers or watched on TV as an outsider, to the big screen. And that works and how!

But let's not give the subject material all importance, for Madhur's handling of the subject is exemplary. Madhur dresses up his mannequins well, but most importantly, infuses life in those prime bodies. A number sequences leave you tongue-tied [more on that later].

But there's a hitch. And this problem tones down the impact considerably. The running tine of almost 2.40 hours makes you restless, especially the penultimate 25-odd minutes. Yet, all said and done, FASHION has all it takes to be the showstopper this Diwali!

FASHION tells the story of a small-town girl with a dream and the determination to make it a reality. Meghna [Priyanka Chopra] is ambitious, she wants to attain the status of a supermodel. She realises her dreams and rises to walk the ramps for leading designers across India.

But Meghna has to pay the price for her fame and her journey to the top. Her career starts sliding downwards. In this journey of Meghna, she encounters a number of people. Most importantly, Shonali [Kangna Ranaut] and Janet [Mugdha Godse]. Also, Abhijit Sareen [Arbaaz Khan], a tycoon who controls the fashion industry.

CHANDNI BAR, PAGE 3, SATTA, CORPORATE, TRAFFIC SIGNAL -- every Madhur Bhandarkar film has a new story to tell and he tells it most convincingly. In fact, Madhur strikes a fine balance between realism and entertainment in every film. Given the fact that FASHION is all about the fashion industry, the narrative is inevitably filled with lots of glam-n-glitz moments. The fashion shows, the stunning models, the superb styling, the vibrant colours and the behind the scenes drama is worth every penny spent on the ticket.

But it's not just ramp shows and style-n-fashion here. There's a story running concurrently -- of three models. One, the rise of an unknown into a supermodel. Two, the fall of a supermodel to dust. Three, the ambitious model not achieving success, but opting for a marriage of convenience.

While Madhur has handled the theme as if he were an insider, this review would be incomplete if you ignore two major sequences that are simply outstanding. One, Kangna's wardrobe malfunction and two, when Priyanka exposes Arbaaz to his wife [Suchitra Pillai].

Mahesh Limaye's cinematography captures every aspect of the fashion industry to the fullest. The screenplay [Madhur Bhandarkar, Anuradha Tiwari, Ajay Monga] is perfect, except for the penultimate portions. Niranjan Iyengar's dialogues are fantastic. Nitin Chandrakant Desai's production design is truly upmarket. The costumes and styling are top notch, a feast for the eyes. Salim-Sulaiman's music is well synchronised as well. 'Mar Jaava' and 'Jalwa' are lilting creations.

Madhur places immense trust on Priyanka and she is remarkable all through, more towards the second hour. Post AITRAAZ, FASHION is another medal that shines the brightest when you look at her body of work. But the real star is Kangna. Her role may not be as lengthy as that of Priyanka, but the actress pitches in an awesome performance. Her confidence at the very start is infectious and her overall performance deserves an ovation.

Mugdha Godse is, again, supremely confident. She has dum. Arbaaz Khan is first-rate. Arjan Bajwa does well. Harsh Chhaya, the gay designer, stands out with a realistic performance. Ashwin Mushran, Priyanka's confidante, is top notch. Samir Soni is good. Suchitra Pillai and Kittu Gidwani are effectual. Raj Babbar and Kiran Juneja are seasoned in such roles.

On the whole, FASHION has tremendous curiosity value and also shock value for the Indian audiences. Its subject -- the behind the scenes working and drama of the fashion industry -- is its USP. At the box-office, the pre-release hype and buzz will ensure a successful run for the film. Its business at multiplexes mainly should be bountiful. However, trimming the film will only help; not only will it enhance the film, but also its business. Must watch!

Ghajini Exclusive Promo - Aamir roars...with the class

The lion roars and the roar is deafening. The lion here is none other than Aamir Khan. The actor, known for enacting a wide variety of roles in his illustrious career, is ready to traverse into a new territory with GHAJINI. In fact, every time an Aamir starrer is about to release, it turns into an event.

The keenly anticipated GHAJINI hit headlines when the producers revealed the first look of the film -- Aamir's stunning physique -- last week. Right from news channels to newspapers to blogs, Aamir's look was the topic of discussion within and outside the industry.

Now let's talk of the promo. It's spell-binding, it leaves you yearning for more, in fact your 'hunger' for the film increases manifold thanks to this promo. First Aamir's all-new, 8-pack abs catch your attention. Later, the promo changes dramatically, with a foot stomping viciously on someone's head, followed by Aamir's eye staring at you and then, he punches someone so hard, it's unbelievable.

The promo truly lives up to the expectations of the most anticipated film of the year. Watch out!

All eyes on 'Paathshaala'

Big Pictures' forthcoming release 'Paathshaala' is evoking great response already! The trailer of the film which was showcased along with the recently released 'Karzzzz' is getting rave reviews from all the spheres.

An avid movie watcher and a music teacher with a leading school in the city, Shruti Agarwal is all gung ho about the movie promo, "'Paathshaala' seems like a promising movie and from the look of it I am sure it is going to be a wonderful film. I am looking forward to it as I am eager to watch all the brilliant child artists coming together in a film".

A Trade Analyst, Taran Adarsh says, "The most interesting thing that caught my attention from the first look of 'Paathshaala' is its uniqueness and of course the title itself. Looking at the trailer I can surely say that every kid will enjoy this film, I feel that the combination of Shahid and Nana will add their own charm. Ahmed & Shaira as producers will definitely come out with a film which will make a lot of impact; the year 2009 will start with a bang called 'Paathshaala'."

The film stars Shahid Kapur and Nana Patekar in pivotal dynamic roles supported by Ayesha Takia, Sushant Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Swini Khare (of Cheeni Kum fame), Dwij Yadav (Nanhe Jaiselmer), Ali Haji (Fanaa) and Avika Gor (Balika Vadhu). The movie has been produced by Shaira Khan and directed by award winning director Milind Ukey. Milind has been an Associate Director with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on two of his reputed projects 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' and 'Khamoshi – The Musical'. His Marathi feature film 'Devaki' has won 27 awards including Best Director and Best Film. Music has been composed by Hanif Shaikh.

'Paathshala' is slated for release in January 2009.

Abhishek-Ash to shoot Raavan after Diwali

Mani Ratnam's film tentatively titled Raavan will finally take off after Diwali on the 29th October.

The first major schedule with Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan was supposed to start on October 12, a day after the Big B's birthday.

But fate had other plans. The Big B fell ill on the fateful morning before the shooting, leaving his son and Bahu with no choice but to cancel the shoot.

Says a source close to the project, "Mani made it very clear that there was no rush for Abhishek and Aishwarya to return. Having gone through a personal beareavment very close to his family last year he now knows family always comes first. There was no pressure on the pair to appear in Kochi for the shooting."

Abhishek was very clear about returning only when his dad's health was completely restored.

And now Abhishek and Aishwarya return to the shooting after Diwali, though there is no Diwali celebrations in the Bachchan household this year because of the Big B's mother's death.

In the meanwhile the unit has packed up in Kochi. Ravi Kissan who plays Abhishek's elder brother says, "We couldn't do any shooting because all my scenes are with Abhishek."

Incidentally the Big B's schedules would need considerable adjustment when gets back to work.

The project most immediately affected is Leena Yadav's Teen Patti. The Big B was shooting for it when he fell ill.

Says the director Leena Yadav, "But Mr Bachchan had taken the day off for his birthday when he fell ill. Very honestly, his health is far more important than any film schedule. We'll resume shooting only when he has recuperated properly."

Ranbir Kapoors childhood days

/photo.cms?msid=3646521 Mum Neetu Singh is extremely proud of her son Ranbir and why she shouldn’t? The talented actor is just two films old in the industry but within this short span of time has impressed the cinegoers, carrying forward the legacy of his dad’s ‘chocolate boy’ image.

In a candid conversation with Renuka Vyavahare, Neetu Singh recounts her son’s childhood and his journey to stardom.

“Ranbir is an ideal son; in fact he is my father! I take his suggestions before doing anything. People who know him will tell you how down-to-earth and simple he is! Those who don’t know him get shocked as he is so unlike a star kid. He doesn’t throw tantrums, never argues, he’d never ever do anything against my wishes! He puts his family above all.

As a child he was extremely naughty, stubborn and a cry baby. Everyday I’d be visiting his school for some or the other complaint of his. He used to bunk classes, play a mediator among his friends when they got caught up in fights. He was inclined towards films right from his childhood. However, today he is a changed man. He is understanding, calm and composed.

When he and his dad sit together they seldom talk about films. Rishi has never given him any lectures on what to do and what not to do as far as his career is concerned.

As a person, Ranbir is friendly and social, thus enjoys a large circle of friends. Riddhima is more disciplined while Ranbir is naughty. He will tease you, at times even annoy you and then make up these cute faces because of which you’d just not be able to be angry at him. He is an absolute sweetheart.”

That he is a sweetheart, we have no doubts... taking his fans, co-stars, directors and girl friend Deepika Padukone’s word for it. But as of now, Mum is the word on beta Ranbir.

Brand ambassador ho toh aisa!

Shah Rukh Khan When Shah Rukh Khan tells you that he invests his money in ICICI bank, you would like to believe him. And most people do. So it was not surprising when the bank roped in their brand ambassador to save their faces in a crisis.

With rumours floating that ICICI bank is on the verge of a financial collapse, their stock value began to drop drastically and investors began pulling out their money to prepare for a bailout. That's when King Khan stepped in.

He might be busy jostling between hectic shooting schedules for his forthcoming films Billo Barber and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi but that didn't stop him from squeezing time to shoot for an ad for ICICI bank, a brand that he has been endorsing for sometime now.

Shah Rukh Khan is one actor who has been endorsing the same products for years. Be it Santro, Tag Hueur, Videocon, Dish TV, Sunfeast or Pepsi, SRK has been the face of all these brands since the day he first signed the deal.

Ad guru Prahlad Kakkar says, “Apart from being available and popular, what works to rope in Shahrukh Khan as an ambassador is his creative inclination. He always provides advice and insight to make the promotion better. His creative involvement in the ad campaign is one more aspect that makes him the most wanted endorser.”

On his brand association, SRK was once quoted as saying, “I can't endorse a whole lot of products. Whatever I am or have been endorsing, I have been associated with it for years and they are like family.”

No wonder then, that the star took time out to shoot an ad for the bank. Truly, brand ambassador ho toh aisa!

SRK will attract Indians to Malaysia

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan being conferred the traditional Malaysian title of 'Datuk', akin to the British knighthood, will help draw more Indian tourists to the Southeast Asian country, says a Malaysian Indian businessman.

Chandrakant Avalani, president of the Malacca Indian Chamber of Commerce, said that tourist arrivals from India have been rising steadily over the last few years and linking the actor to Malacca would benefit both the state and the nation's tourism industry.

"Now more people from India will know where Malacca and Malaysia are. This will surely help boost tourism," he told reporters at Little India, one of the numerous shopping malls teeming with people ahead of the Deepavali festival.

Shah Rukh is to be given the honour in Malacca next month, but the move had stirred up much controversy with many questioning whether he really deserves it. Critics have asked what Shah Rukh has done for Malaysia to deserve a Datukship. They also took up cudgels on behalf of local artistes.

The star has conveyed his acceptance of the traditional award, but he is set to pay for his airfare to Malacca.

Shah Rukh had shot the film "One 2 Ka 4" and a and a song sequence from his blockbuster "Don" in Malacca.

Malaccan authorities says Shah Rukh's shoot in Malaysia had benefitted the country immensely, giving it global publicity without any money being spent.

Vidya Balan has a problem with John Abraham?

The latest is that Vidya Balan has walked out of a David Dhawan film.

A source has reportedly said, "Vidya is not doing UTV's 'Hook Ya Crook'. Vidya felt that after 'Salaam-E-Ishq', she and John needed to do a film which had substantial roles for both. She had reservations as Dhawan's heroines don't have much to do except sing, dance and look glamorous.

She voiced her concern to the director who promised to make changes in her role. Vidya wants to do more women-oriented roles. As she didn't want to upset David, she quietly opted out though the producer and David are insisting that Vidya is still doing it."

Vidya's spokesperson insists that she's not doing the movie because of the date issues. But the buzz is that it's because of the presence of lead actor John Abraham!

Looks like this has a lot to to do with the rumours of the linkup between the two on the sets of 'Salaam-E-Ishq'! Maybe Vidya isn't game for controversies anymore!

Neha Dhupia & Ritwik make their affair public

The 'People' magazine brings out yet another celebrity confession in its November issue.

We are indeed talking about the gorgeous Neha Dhupia and the 'squashing shuttler' (no pun intended) Ritwik Bhattacharya, who had been denying their courtship for a very long time.

The good news is that after having made Deepika and Ranbir confess their profound love for each other, this magazine now carries Neha and Ritwik's confession about their ongoing relationship!

This issue sees Neha going on record to say that, "There has been a lot of speculation in the press about our relationship. There were stories about us not being together".

To which, Ritwik adds that, "People who needed to know always knew about our relationship. Also, now we are more comfortable with each other.

So, I guess this is the right time to talk about our relationship." The two also speak about their take on past relationships, on taking the next step, on marriage, on parents' reaction etc...

All in all, it's a must-buy for all you Neha fans and even otherwise!

The Indian Oscar dream... 6 to Kamal, 4 to Aamir, 2 to Mani

Is it a dream, necessity, requirement or fulfillment? Does Indian cinema need an Oscar to prove itself to the world as an industry that makes quality films with consistency? This might be the right time to restart this debate with Taare Zameen Par being selected as the official Indian entry to the Oscars. There have been conflicting view points with regards to the Oscar and Indian cinema’s dependence on it for worldwide recognition. There are those who think that an Oscar won’t make much of a difference, there are those who think that the Oscar is just a glorified regional awards function because it is held by Hollywood who are so good at marketing everything that they make. But, all these opinions notwithstanding, the entire film industry or at least the film maker in question, get hugely excited when their movie is officially sent to the Oscars. Everyone, without exception of what they think about the Oscars, keenly follows the fortunes of an Indian film at the Oscars. The level of attention is above what is given to the prestigious Cannes and BAFTA awards. For some reason, the Oscars have a certain aura and romance

about them that makes them highly desirable objects of recognition.

India’s lone moment of pride at the Oscars belongs to Satyajit Ray. However, talking about Ray’s achievement is like talking about K.D.Jadhav’s bronze medal at the 1952 Olympics as India’s moment of glory at the Olympics. Well, fortunes at the Olympics have changed since, but Indian cinema still waits its Abhinav Bindra at the world stage. There might be many who contest this, in fact it is not surprising if the majority stand up against this sentiment, but the cold fact is that no Indian movie has won an Oscar. But facts count for little in the world of cinema which lives on fiction and artistry- abstracts that cannot be quantified like track speeds or gunshots. So, it is difficult and maybe impossible to explain why the Indian industry is a prominent absentee from the Oscar roll of honor, in spite of producing movies that are (at least to the Indian audience) among the best in the world in terms of technical and artistic brilliance. Popular perception is that a prejudiced jury may be playing the spoilsport. ‘Prejudiced’, not in the real negative sense of the word. Here, it means that the jury might consist of people who might not be able to judge an Indian movie for what it is. A popular cinema personality said that ‘Indian movies have a different grammar and the jurists might not be able to understand this’. Indian cinema might be an unlucky victim of this cultural difference. If that is so, then why do we need the Oscars? Because of the aura and romance that has been mentioned earlier. It is very special for a batsman to score a test century at Lord’s, for a singer to perform at the Music Academy, or for an international tennis player to win the Davis Cup for his country. These are things that might not make huge differences in the professional lives of the people concerned, but are special achievements; milestones that tell us how far we have come. An Oscar for Indian cinema is something like that. Sure, we don’t need a Hollywood certificate of excellence to do our business, nor are the audience, even if they are in Europe, Middle East or Africa, too concerned with such details. But we have to admit that getting one would be nice and very highly appreciated, after all who doesn’t like recognition?

On that note let’s take a look at the lucky few who have been officially entered at the Oscars. When I say lucky few, it is because of the number of languages in which movies come out and number of actors who can produce memorable moments. To stand out in such a crowd requires not only considerable merit, but a certain quantum of luck as well ( and some say, a person who speaks the same language as the film in the jury).

Who is the artiste to have the single highest number of his movies sent to the Oscars? The answer is a piece of cake, Padmashree Kamal Haasan. Starting with the Hindi Saagar, followed by Nayagan, Devar Magan, Kurudhi Punal, Indian and Hey Ram, a total of 6 nominations. The interesting thing to note here is the presence of Nayagan which was later voted as one of the best 100 movies of the century. It would be interesting to see whether the movie that eventually won the best foreign film award that year is also part of the top 100. But, perceptions change with time and so it is better left alone. After Kamal comes Aamir Khan with Earth, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and Taare Zameen Par. The list is long, we can’t get all of them in here. A little bit of trivia, Jeans was the official Indian entry of 1996, a movie that is far removed from the types that usually make it to the Oscars. Apart from Kamal, the only other person from Kollywood to make any sort of an impression has been Mani Ratnam, with Nayagan and Anjali. But of all the entries only two movies thus far have managed to reach that final hurdle before being beaten at the post. Being sent from India is one thing and making it to the final nominees list is another. Only the legendary Mother India, Saalam Bombay and Lagaan have achieved it before and by the look of things Taare Zameen Par is all qualified to do the same and maybe even go one higher. Let’s hope that we get our first Oscar; it will put many questions and doubts to rest.

'Ghajini' first look photos creates trouble

This incident can be termed as something that can happen once in a span of 10 lakh years or may be even more.
There is no other way to describe the way this strange occurrence has happened.
The first look images of Aamir Khan's forthcoming film 'Ghajini' has been released and it has the actor exposing his newly toned and beefed up physique and his now famous head design.
However the surprise element of the photographs and which arouses some curiosity are the tattoos that can be seen in his body.
The interesting information is that a phone number presented as one of the tattoos wrecked havoc in the life of a lady named Dr. Sukekha.
After the publicity photos of Aamir were exposed to the public, Dr. Surekha started to get phone calls inquiring her about the Bollywood star.
Later on after trying to know about the reason for the sudden coming of phone calls to her mobile phone, Surekha found out that a number which was written on Aamir's body is her phone number.
During the photo session, one of the assistant directors had written down a random number and he never thought he was writing down a real number.
Well, there is a possibility that quite accidentally numbers can turn out to be same, but what explanation can be given to the way people started to call the actual owner of the number.
Only the observation skills of the common film crazy people can be given as an answer and this incident also echoes out the theory of love for films and film stars being considered equal to a religion in India.

Kangana shocks: I've no respect for masala films

Kangna Ranaut is in an explosive mood. May be it has something to do with the 'explosive' cinema that she has been a part of ever since she made her debut with Gangster.

From playing a gangster's love interest (which was straight out of headlines) in Gangster to re-enacting the trauma of Parveen Babi in Woh Lamhe and most recently expressing the dilemma of Senior Executive at a Call Center in Life In A Metro, Kangna has been busy making her own space outside a world which goes by the name of Bollywood.

While working in aforementioned films, didn't she feel like being a part of a hardcore Bollywood commercial film to at least stay in the reckoning during her relatively leaner period?

"Everybody asks me this. But I never felt like being a part of a hardcore Bollywood commercial film because I have no respect for such cinema", Kangna makes a shocking confession.

She continues, "It is like an immortal work of art. For me my movies are my heart-beat. I cannot do a stupid film in which people laugh while they are watching it. So I have to be very careful".

Seems like she detests such cinema? "Yes, because it hurts me emotionally and mentally when people make fun about the characters in the film. I don't like people making fun of movies and characters. You should be given respect in society and for the work you do."

In that case, is Fashion the kind of film which should get the actors in it the kind of respect she aims for? "I really hope so. Fashion will change the thinking of the society and what they think about the fashion world. I don't have a crystal ball to see what the future holds, but yes I do know that the film will do very well", says Kangna in a positive tone.

There has been long gap between her last film Life In A Metro and Fashion. Was a break like this planned? Replies Kangna, "It was not planned. Some times it just takes too long for a project to complete. Even Fashion for that matter took about 6- 7 months to complete. In fact I did a film in the middle called Roshan but it didn't come. It will now come out after Fashion".

Chak De India Fame 'Komal Chautala' lands in to dirty Fashion world

It was her rough language which did as much talking as her hockey stick in Chak De India.

However, with Madhur Bhandarkar, she is singing a different tone altogether as she gets into the world of glitz and glamour while being a part of Fashion. We are talking about Chitrashi Rawat, popularly known as 'Komal Chautala' of Chak De India, who would next be seen in Fashion.

In the film, she is said to be playing the role of a model coordinator and turns out to be an integral part of the plot. Interestingly, her presence in the film has been a closely guarded secret and was kept under the wraps for almost a year since the film came on floors.

"How did this come to your notice; there was not much being spoken about this part. Let this be a surprise element", exclaims Madhur Bhandarkar, director of Fashion, who was caught by surprise when queried about Chitrashi's presence in the film.

After being prodded further, Madhur agreed to divulge about her role. "Chitrashi plays a model coordinator in the film. She approached me when work on Fashion had begun and expressed that she wanted to work with me.

I did tell her that the part where she would have fitted in was important but not too lengthy. However, she agreed since she wanted to be a part of Fashion."

Talking about the length of her role in the film, Madhur remarks that she would be seen in four scenes. However, each of them is integral to the film's plot.

"She had made a terrific impression in just these four scenes. Yet again, she is a firebrand in Fashion and doesn't mince any word. I have liked the way she has approached her character and made it look so convincing and real", says Madhur.

Starring Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut and Mugdha Godse in the lead, Fashion is all set to hit the screens on 29th October. Other Diwali release to arrive on the same day is Golmaal Returns.

Meet Saif Ali Khan's British girlfriend!

Well, Saif Ali Khan isn't really breaking up with his hot girl Kareena. It's just that he's set to romance a popular British model in his home production.

Florence Brudenell-Bruce, a face of John Lewis swimwear brand, plays the actor's British girlfriend in director Imtiaz Ali 's next untitled project!

Deepika Padukone is the leading lady of the movie which is co-produced by Saif.

The 22-year-old Florence who's fondly called Flee also shakes a leg in an elaborate song with the actor.

The model who has dated Formula One celebrity driver Jenson Button for over two years, has apparently said that she has had a dream of acting in movies for a long time. When she learnt that a Bollywood director was holding auditions in London for the role of Saif's British girlfriend in a Hindi movie, she gave it a shot.

After two auditions she was told that she'd bagged the role!

Since she's been a regular model in Britain for over four years, she's used to facing the camera, but acting in a Hindi film was a challenge, no less.

To make herself familiar with Bollywood she decided to watch a few flicks like the English versions of 'Guru', 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Race' starring her hero Saif.

The model also shot for the film in Delhi recently and was spotted at the fashion week in the capital.

She's made it clear that she would like to work in more Bollywood films, if there are good offers!

Looks like the moolah and the 'different kind of' glamour sure is enough to tempt her!

Aamir Khan New Six Pack - Ghajini Movie

Aamir shocked the masses when he released the pics of his near bald look in Ghajini. Also, since a quite some time, there have been talks in the media that Aamir is working hard on his physique for Ghajini. And just when the 'six pack abs' fad seemed to be dying out, Aamir has unveiled his chiseled physique in Ghajini and how! People close to Aamir have been raving that he currently has the best physique in the film industry and well, we really can't deny that.

HEROES - Movie Review from IndiaFM

Jog your memory a bit. Samir Karnik's first two movies [KYUN HO GAYA NA, NANHE JAISALMER] have been critical and commercial disasters. But Samir has assembled an impressive cast for his new outing HEROES. The billboards look really impressive. You think, chalo, dekhte hain, will Samir deliver this time? Will his fortunes change for better? Come to think of it, you saunter into the auditorium with zilch expectations. HEROES is an underdog.

HEROES talks about a journey undertaken by two boys and the three letters they've to deliver to the families of the deceased. HEROES is more of an emotional experience, how each family copes with life after their beloved has become a martyr.

Besides evoking strong emotions, HEROES also arouses strong patriotic feelings. There're moments in the film that compel you to salute those who guard our nation, so that we can sleep in peace. At the end, the message it delivers is simple -- You don't have to be a soldier to love your country.

Back to the two pertinent questions we raised at the outset. Question 1, Does Samir deliver? HEROES is a revelation. Cinema is all about narrating stories and Samir proves that he's a proficient storyteller. Question 2, will he prove lucky this time? Well, HEROES has all it takes to strike a chord, with family audiences mainly. The moments linger in your memory much after the show has concluded.

Final verdict? HEROES salutes the heroes who guard our nation. It's a powerful film. A moving experience!

HEROES is the story Sammy [Sohail Khan] and Ali [Vatsal Sheth] who travel a thousand miles to deliver three letters as a part of their film school assignment. But little do they know that the journey they have embarked upon will give a new meaning to their life.

HEORES unfolds in three chapters. But before that you get to see the wild side of two misled youth who don't take life seriously. The first chapter, Salman-Preity, is the highpoint of the film. The emotional moments in this chapter are worth applauding. Note the moments between Salman-Preity and also between the kid [Dwij Yadav] and the two youth. The scene at the Indo-Pak border -- the fence dividing the two nations -- is amazing. Watch Preity missing her husband and also embracing his uniform. Another brilliant stroke! This chapter deserves a 10 on 10 for its high emotional quotient and captivating performances.

Chapter 2 is slightly less impactful than Chapter 1. The portions between Sunny and Bobby are well executed, but the writing isn't as compelling. Yet, the fight sequence -- when a group of hooligans act smart with Sunny's girlfriend [Hrishitaa Bhatt] -- is superb. Sunny's 'dhai kilo ka haath' and the way it shatters the tiles on the floor leaves a strong impact. Watch this sequence with the masses and you'd only hear whistles and claps. Another scene from this chapter -- Sunny paying his last respects to Bobby -- is moving.

The third chapter [Mithun, Dino] is the softest link. Nothing wrong with the writing or its execution, but something is missing, the pace suddenly dips. The match in the end works mainly because it has been edited well.

Samir Karnik takes giant strides as a storyteller. Binod Pradhan and Gopal Shah's cinematography is top notch. The DOPs have done complete justice to the panoramic locales of North India. Sajid-Wajid's music is a major asset. 'Mannata' is the pick of the lot. What a soothing composition! Ditto for 'Makhana' [filmed on Sunny, Bobby]. Dialogues are magnificent at places.

The ones who leave the maximum impression in this multi-starrer are, in this order, Salman [superb; one of his finest works], Preity [outstanding; has spoken Punjabi so fluently], Sohail [pleasant surprise; evolving into a very fine actor], Sunny [very likeable] and Mithun Chakraborty [mature]. Bobby is effective in a cameo. Wish he would've got more footage. Vatsal Seth is decent. Dino is just about okay. Dwij Yadav is first-rate. Prateeksha Lonkar is fair. Amrita Arora and Ria Sen are passable.

On the whole, HEROES is a genuinely well-made film with strong emotions as its trump card. At the box-office, the pre-Diwali dull phase notwithstanding, it has the merits to climb the ladder with a strong word of mouth. The film deserves to be tax-exempted for its noble theme and noble intentions.

Farhan's next shot as a leading man

Farhan Akthar without a doubt is a perfect role model for the ambitious youth who with the kind of opportunities being provided by the new emerging India are just raring to go and prove themselves.
Just his pursuing of being equally good in whatever he gets his hand in and emerging successful each time can inspire and create a belief that it is possible to be good in multiple fields if you have the will to just go ahead and do it sincerely.
When film making is concerned, he just wiped out some old styles of depicting the contemporary youth life and culture and ushered in a new style of film making that the film lovers labeled and identified as something cool and very much like their own life.
Now that he is also known as a decent actor to look out for and a good vocalist as well and with his unique style of presenting stories, interesting projects with newer fresh depictions of life can be expected.
Next in line to see the actor inside Farhaan is the forthcoming flick titled as 'Luck By Chance'.
The quality of the movie can be expected to be quite high as  all of the movies Farhaan has associated till now has not disappointed the film lovers.
The new movie is the debut vehicle as a director for Farhan's sister Zoya Akhtar.
The film will be equally and more interesting for the entire film industry personalities as it has the happenings of the film industry as the backdrop.
We will be seeing a multitude of leading actors making special appearances in 'Luck By Chance'.
Hrithik Roshan has an ample role in the movie playing a superstar.
Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan will be also seen in the movie in cameos.
Rishi Kapoor will be seen as a Punjabi film financier and Juhi Chawla is playing his wife.
Isha Sharvani is enacting a character of a leading heroine of Bollywood while Dimple Kapadia plays her mother.
Sanjay Kapoor also makes a comeback after a long time in the role of an aspiring actor.
Farhan Akhtar who is the protagonist of the movie also gives life to the character of a struggling actor and his lady love is being played by the hugely talented Konkana Sen Sharma who will be seen as an new actress in the Tinsel Town.
"Luck By Chance' will get to the cinema halls on January 23, 2009.
